Capabilities and limits
What works today
- PDF: lossless optimization, then stepwise image recompression for scanned pages. Text and vector content is kept. Signed, protected or locked files are left unchanged unless you opt in.
- JPG: recompression. PNG: lossless optimization; PNG→JPG only if you allow it.
Not available yet
- HEIC, Word/Excel/PowerPoint, video. They stay off until real processors and fidelity tests pass.
- Merging, splitting, image-to-PDF.
- Limits measured on a ZIP/archive. FileMending fits separate uploads.

MB here means 1,000,000 bytes. Images are capped at 40 megapixels each. Large jobs take minutes; we publish measured times as we collect them.
What FileMending never does
It never removes pages, signatures, stamps, factual text or whole files to hit a number. If a batch cannot fit with your allowed changes, it says so and shows the smallest allowance that works.
